Can crystals that are altered by man still heal?

A few crystal purists regard crystals that have been altered by men in white coats to of been energetically "murdered"meaning that all the energy and healing properties that crystal once possessed has been destroyed by the process, or in the best case scenario that the crystal is very stressed by the process and will take a considerable amount of clearing before the crystal can be once again used for healing.
